Case Detail: Summary Previews¶
Case 1: ASTA Color Value Discrepancy at Port¶
A 20 MT shipment of Premium paprika powder (contracted ASTA 160–200) tested ASTA 138 at destination port. Investigation revealed the issue was not actual quality failure but sample preparation differences between supplier and buyer laboratories. The resolution involved arbitration by a third-party accredited laboratory and revision of the sampling protocol in the purchase contract.
ROOT CAUSE: Inconsistent sample grinding procedure — the supplier's laboratory used finer grinding (300 μm), achieving higher extraction efficiency, while the buyer's lab used coarser grind (500 μm), producing lower ASTA readings.
KEY LESSON: Specify sample preparation method (particle size, extraction time) in the contract, not just the test method.
Case 2: Caking and Clumping in Container Shipment¶
