Certificate of Analysis — Template¶
1. Purpose & Scope¶
This Certificate of Analysis (COA) template serves as the standard format for documenting the quality test results of every paprika batch shipped by Dinweys (Qingdao).Co.,Ltd. The COA accompanies each shipment and provides the customer with certified evidence that the product meets the agreed specification. Issuance of the COA is required prior to release for shipment.
Scope: All paprika powder, flake, and whole-pod products across all grades (Standard, Superior, Premium, Special).
2. Product & Batch Identification¶

| Product Form | [Powder / Flakes / Whole Pods] |
| Batch/Lot Number | [YYYYMM-XXX — e.g., 202607-001] |
| Quantity (kg) | [XX] kg |
| Production Date | [YYYY-MM-DD] |
| Expiry Date | [YYYY-MM-DD = Production + shelf life] |
| Origin | [Xinjiang / Shandong / Gansu] |
| Destination / Customer PO | [As applicable] |
| COA Issue Date | [YYYY-MM-DD] |
| COA Number | [COA-YYYYMM-XXX] |
3. Physical Analysis¶
| Parameter | Specification | Result | Method Reference |
|---|---|---|---|
| ASTA Color Value | [e.g., 160–200 for Premium] | [result] | ASTA 20.1 — Spectrophotometric, 460 nm |
| Moisture (%) | ≤10.0% | [result] | LOD at 105°C / AOAC 945.39 |
| Particle Size — % through sieve | [e.g., ≥95% through 40 mesh] | [result] | Sieve analysis — ISO 2591-1 |
| Bulk Density — loose (g/mL) | 0.40–0.60 | [result] | ASTM D7481 |
| Extraneous Matter (%) | ≤0.5% | [result] | Visual / Manual separation |
| Appearance | [e.g., Red powder, uniform] | [result] | Visual inspection |
| Odor & Flavor | Characteristic | [result] | Sensory evaluation |
For Flakes: Add Fines (through 20 mesh) ≤10% and Oversize (retained on 4 mesh) ≤5%.
For Whole Pods: Add Moisture ≤12%, Stem Content ≤2%, Defective Pods ≤5%, Pod Length range.
4. Chemical Analysis¶
| Parameter | Specification | Result | Method Reference |
|---|---|---|---|
| Pungency (SHU) | [e.g., ≤500 for Premium] | [result] | HPLC — AOAC 995.14 / ISO 7543-1 |
| Total Ash (%) | ≤8.0% | [result] | AOAC 923.03 (525°C) |
| Acid-Insoluble Ash (%) | ≤1.0% | [result] | AOAC 941.03 |
| Lead (Pb) (ppm) | [per target market] | [result] | ICP-MS — [EN 15763 / GB 5009.268] |
| Cadmium (Cd) (ppm) | [per target market] | [result] | ICP-MS |
| Arsenic (As) (ppm) | [per target market] | [result] | ICP-MS |
| Mercury (Hg) (ppm) | [per target market, if tested] | [result] | ICP-MS |
| Pesticide Residue Screen | EU MRL / China GB / US MRL | Compliant / Non-compliant | GC-MS/MS — QuEChERS |
Note on Pesticide Testing: Full multi-residue screen (≥400 compounds) is performed on each production batch or as per customer agreement. A passing screen confirms compliance with the target market's MRL regulation.
5. Microbiological Analysis¶
| Parameter | Specification | Result | Method Reference |
|---|---|---|---|
| Salmonella spp. | Negative / 25 g | [result] | ISO 6579-1 / GB 4789.4 |
| Escherichia coli | <10 CFU/g | [result] | ISO 16649-2 / GB 4789.38 |
| Yeast & Mold | <1,000 CFU/g | [result] | ISO 21527-1 / GB 4789.15 |
| Aerobic Plate Count | <100,000 CFU/g (EU) / <10,000 CFU/g (CN) | [result] | ISO 4833-1 / GB 4789.2 |
| Enterobacteriaceae | <1,000 CFU/g | [result] | ISO 21528-2 (optional) |
For EU/US Market Defaults: Use EU limit column. For China Domestic: Use CN limit column.
6. Acceptance Criteria & Decision Rules¶
- All parameters listed above must fall within the stated specification range for the batch to pass.
- If any parameter is out-of-specification (OOS), the batch is placed ON HOLD and the QC Manager must initiate a deviation investigation (see CAPA Report).
- A batch with critical non-conformance (Salmonella positive, heavy metal exceedance, or ASTA below minimum) is REJECTED and cannot be shipped as the declared grade.
- A batch with minor non-conformance (e.g., moisture 10.2% vs ≤10.0%) may be conditionally released upon written risk assessment and customer approval.
7. Certifying Statement¶
The above results confirm that this batch meets the specified quality standards for the agreed grade and target market.
The undersigned certifies that all tests were performed in accordance with the referenced methods, equipment was within calibration, and all results are recorded and traceable.

8. Recording & Data Retention¶
- The QC Analyst performing the tests must record all raw data in the Laboratory Information Management System (LIMS) or QC logbook.
- COA copies are retained for a minimum of 5 years after the batch expiry date.
- Electronic COAs are stored in the Dinweys document management system with access controlled to QC and Sales departments.
- Customer-specific COA formats may be accommodated when specified in the purchase agreement.
